  • The Last Black Man in San Francisco at PROXY

    11 October 2019

As part of the 2019 PROXY Fall Film Fest, we screened the widely discussed, award-winning film THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO and invited the filmmakers to engage with the community during an open Q&A. The film attracted over 500 people, settling into lawn chairs and blankets across the square.

Director and writer, Joe Talbot, and lead actor and writer, Jimmie Fails stood before the crowd alongisde a large portion of the cast after the film credits to share the origin story of the film, the learnings from it’s worldwide reception, and what they hoped viewers would take away from the story. It was a fitting film to show at an “interim use” site such as PROXY, with an unsure future contingent upon market pressures and political decisions.
