In honor of Earth Month and the 35th anniversary of the

, Bay Area artists and collaborated to create GROW - a public art installation at open to the public between April 19 through May 8.

The installation was created in partnership with

and Local Language, with trees provided by .

GROW is an invitation for us to contemplate the interplay between the human-made built environment and the natural world, and to question the meaning of 'growth' in the context of our dense urban environment.

The moss letters that spell the word GROW are a call to action, reminding us of the consequences of the extraction, pollution and exploitation that result from our lifestyle choices, but they also serve as a reminder to celebrate, honor and support the strength and resilience of the natural world. After the installation, the trees will find homes along sidewalks throughout San Francisco, capturing airborne particulates, filtering stormwater runoff, and providing calming shade and oxygen for our City's human and nonhuman occupants.
